DELIVERER

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read my posts! Today I’m starting a blog series titled “He Didn’t Have to Do It.” I’m so excited to share but before I do, allow me to give you the back story of this series.

Sunday night while I was praying, I kept repeating what came to my mind: “You didn’t have to do it but you did because that’s who You are.” That was my declaration and it made me so grateful because I could see the many ways God made for me and how He’s healed me time after time! He didn’t have to do it but He did. He did it out of love and not only that but because what we may be in need of, He is that. It we need healing, Healer is just who He is, etc. Remember, God is His word and His word will not return to Him void because He is not a liar.

Are you ready to dive into Day 1? I surely hope so! Here goes:

Exodus is by far my favorite book of the Bible. It tells of how God delivered His people from Egypt. The entire story fascinates me because it reminds me of how I came to receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

Redemption was planned before the world began. God, in His infinite wisdom and being an all-knowing God, knew sin would enter the world. So He had a plan—a plan to deliver His people.

In Exodus 2 Moses is introduced as a baby who was hid for three months. It was something special about him and his parents knew, so they preserved him and when they could hide him no longer, they sent him up the river and to make a long story short, he grew up and was called to deliver the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Then there is the story of Jesus, born to the virgin Mary. He was called to be the Messiah, the One who would save God’s people from their sins.

God did not have to send His Son Jesus to die for us but He did. He could’ve denied all of mankind the chance to receive salvation but He didn’t.

My Story:

I’ve always loved to read and write. In school I was called a geek AND a nerd. And not only that, I was on the heavy side so I got picked on a lot. Rejection led me to acting out in ways to get attention. I tried to suppress the hurt that was buried inside so I started doing things to “show” I wasn’t the person people saw me as. That’s how I got entangled in a web of sin and I didn’t even know it. I was blinded and could not see the Truth.

Remember when I said I’ve always loved to read? Well my mom had a children’s Bible story book that was in my closet. One day I took it out and started reading it. I was probably no more than 10 at the time. I read about a snake talking to a woman and the woman eating some fruit that caused the “Fall of Man.” That was the title of the story. I had questions for my mom and she explained the answers in a way that got my attention. I’m not sure if that was the day a seed was planted but I know one was surely planted.

As I got older, I still had questions but I ignored them. I still chose sin and did not want to investigate the Truth but God has a way of getting our attention right? Yes He does!

I remember one day I was on the computer on Facebook and I had this urge to message a young woman by the name of Latoya. I knew we were relatives and I wanted to reach out to her to inform her. Well I would like to say that was God because she was a believer at the time (and still is) and she helped me along my journey. She was one of the first people I told I received Christ on the night I surrendered. Not only that, I met another young woman prior to meeting Latoya and she basically led me to the church where I surrendered. That night, July 11, 2014, I was watching so many young people go up for prayer and some even accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I’m not sure if she was watching how I was amazed at what I was seeing but she nudged me and I got up. I was nervous. Something in me wanted what they received. I wanted change but I didn’t fully understand what this change would require but I wanted it. But as I got closer to the Pastor, I started crying. It’s like I could begin to see the state that my soul was in and I wanted to be free and I mean free. So I surrendered my life on that night. God delivered me from the power of Satan. He gave me a new life and I was so excited that I started sharing the Gospel with almost everyone I knew. I started sending out text messages to people and I was consistent up until I went into the hospital. I was so happy to share with others what Jesus had done in my life. He didn’t have to do it but He did! He is my DELIVERER!

Reflect and Praise:

Take some time today and think about how you came to Christ. Think about the series of events that may have led up to it. Can you recognize the ways that God was trying to get your attention? Or you can think of a time God delivered you out of a situation? You may not be a believer but look at the series of events that have taken place in your life? Has God tried to get your attention in some way? Did He really have to do it? He didn’t have to do it but He did it and for His faithfulness and grace and mercy, He definitely deserves the praise.

Stay tuned for Day 2!
